How To Host Like A Gee

Happy hosting!

Today I'm sharing my tried and true hosting guide so that you can effortlessly host while enjoying yourself in the moment!

I find the key to being a great host is planning ahead. PREPPING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE MAKES THE ENTIRE PROCESS FEEL STREAMLINED AND MAKES EVERYTHING FEEL RELAXED AND EASY IN THE MOMENT.

Here's how I do it!

Set The Vibe

I love to think about people’s experience from the moment they arrive - the lighting, the music, the scent, the energy, the food, making them feel welcome is what it’s all about. As the host, you are the one to set the tone - if you’re happy and relaxed, they feel it, if you’re stressed about getting it all done, they feel it! I’ve been both so I can see how it affects the experience.

Scent

I love having a signature scent in my home, like Le Labo’s Cedre 11. It's more on the subtle side which is important because you don’t want it to be over-powering or to strong. I’ll light it shortly before guests arrive to set the tone. I also love a few tea lights in small glass holders to add a little sparkle and shine.

Music

Creating chill playlists are perfect so that you can just press play and not have to play DJ. Have a few on-hand for different moods, like something more upbeat for cocktails, and something more mellow during meal time. I love Bossa Nova for nights entertaining at home and while I cook.

What We're Listening To

Flowers

I love to create a signature flower arrangement, my favorite are white lillies (we use these a lot at Gee Beauty as well). I also love mixing it up with neutrals, greens and even pinks. Flowers really make me happy and create a beautiful energy.

What To Wear

It’s all about being comfortable and relaxed, while still feeling like it’s a special time. I like a relaxed dress or loose jeans and a nice top.

In terms of makeup, a cream blush stick and soft bronzer are perfect. I love to layer Liquid Glow 01, Blushbeam and Bronzebeam with a touch of Golden Glow Bronzer. A few coats of Multi-Mascara, Bibi lipstick, and I'm ready!

When you're entertaining at home, it's all about comfort.” - Celene Gee

Food

I love to have small bites and snacks ready when guests arrive - a mix of cut-up veggies, olives, seed crackers or tortilla chips, a few dips, and drinks. I like to serve the meal and everything family style in the center of the table, and either stack some plates at the end or place the plates at the seats, depending on the occasion.

I’ll make at least 2 or 3 veggie-based dishes with different flavors and hydrating, nourishing vegetables. For fish, chicken or meat I like to keep it simple with fresh herbs and seasonings - grilling or roasting.

Dessert

I love small bites for dessert like dark-chocolate covered frozen dates, sorbet, or a grain-free apple crumble. If someone asks if they can bring anything I’ll usually say dessert because I’m not a dessert person, so I don’t want to disappoint!
