The Habits Of Great Skin

The Habits Of Great Skin
Written by

We are four women, from two generations, who have spent the last twenty years looking at skin. Very closely.

We have watched it change with age, hormones, seasons, motherhood, stress, travel, celebration and the occasional late night or two. We have tried more products than we could ever count. We have sat in the facial bed and stood beside it. And if two decades of Gee Beauty have taught us anything, it is this: good skin is rarely the result of one grand gesture. It is the accumulation of small ones.

Great skin has habits. These are ours.

Routine & Consistency Are So Chic

Beauty should be interesting. Discovery is part of the fun. We love a new product of course, or adding a new ingredient into our regimen. But novelty and results are not the same thing. Skin likes consistency. It likes being cleansed properly at night. It likes hydration in the morning. It likes active ingredients introduced thoughtfully, not all at once in a fit of enthusiasm. It likes SPF every day, including the grey ones.

Our own routines are not identical - and they shouldn't be. We are different ages, with different skin, living different lives. What we share is the practice of returning to the basics, and our commitment to consistency. We edit, we adjust, but we don't abandon the plot.

An easy-to-use routine, repeated, will nearly always outperform an elaborate one used when the mood strikes.

What we share is the practice of returning to the basics, and our commitment to consistency.

Commitment, Without the Contract

We've never believed that taking care of your skin should become like a second career. We're not all professionals, and taking care of ourselves shouldn't feel like too much work. Commitment is not twelve steps before 7 a.m. It is knowing what your skin needs and showing up for it with reasonable regularity. It is finishing the product. Giving the formula time. Paying attention when your skin changes instead of declaring that nothing works. There will be evenings when the ritual is luxurious and unhurried. There will also be evenings when washing your face feels like an act of remarkable personal strength. Both count.

Your Bathroom Is Where the Magic Happens

We believe strongly in the importance of professional skin treatments for advanced results. We also know that the few minutes you spend at your bathroom sink, twice a day, are where the future of your skin is being made. The routine itself shouldn't be complicated. Cleanse well. Use targeted ingredients with intention. Give the skin water, then help it hold on to it. Protect it from the sun. Bring everything down the neck and across the chest - your face does not end at the jawline, gorgeous. What matters is that the products suit your skin and your life. A five-step routine you love is great. A three-step routine you use religiously is better than ten beautiful bottles you use infrequently. We are also great believers in editing. Skin does not always need another active, another peel or another opinion. Sometimes it needs less. Sometimes it needs rest. Knowing the difference is part of knowing your skin.

When in doubt, here's our formula: a great cleanser that targets your skin type (gel for normal, combination or oily; cream for sensitive, dry or dehydrated skin; a vitamin C for the morning, any targeted serum, hydration, eye cream + SPF. For evenings, its key to remove your makeup before you cleanse, this is a game-changer and helps keep the skin clean and allows for better absorption of all the skincare you've invested in. At night is the time to use a refining product like retinol, or glycolic acid or something that has been recommended to you and your unique skin by a professional. follow with a replenishing cream for the face, an eye cream, and a neck and chest cream as well. We're here for you to book a virtual skincare consultation with one of our trusted Gee Beauty professionals hello@geebeauty.com or visit us in one of our studios.

A Facial isn't Just For A Special Occassion

For twenty years, we have seen what happens when home care and professional treatments work together. It is a very good partnership.

A facial can do what your bathroom routine cannot: work more deeply, clear congestion properly, replenish hydration, take your skin to the next level with technology and expertise, and give the skin a meaningful reset. But its value is not only in the treatment itself. There is something powerful about having an expert look at your skin regularly - someone who can notice what is changing before it becomes the thing you suddenly cannot stop looking at. This is not because every face needs constant intervention, but because consistency works here, too. The occasional pre-event facial is lovely. A considered treatment plan is transformative.

Wellness Will Find Its Way to Your Face

Skin is part of the body. It reflects our lives. Rest, movement, hydration, nourishment, keeping stress under control, and fresh air have a way of showing up in the complexion - just as their absence does. We're not interested in achieving perfect morning routines. We are interested in the things that make us feel well: a walk, an early night, whole foods, a few quiet minutes, whatever returns us to ourselves. Beauty is a feeling, and energy that comes from within. Feeling good changes the face, too.

Something New Is Coming

We've been working on something - years in the making - that really brings our 20 years in the studios, working with our clients, understanding professional treatments paired with at-home routines, and effective products full circle.

Very soon, we will begin sharing more about GEE SKIN - our own collection of skincare, years in the making.

In many ways, this story began long before there was a product, a formula or even a name. It began around our family kitchen table, where the idea for Gee Beauty first took shape. When we opened our first studio on Roxborough Street in Toronto in 2005, we wanted beauty to feel warm, elevated and personal. A place where women could ask questions, discover what worked and leave feeling more like themselves.

The studio became our education. For twenty years, we have listened across the facial bed and at the beauty counter. Our clients tell us what they love, what they finish, what they recommend to their daughters and mothers - and what they quietly stop using. Our incredible skin therapists see how skin responds over time. And as four women from two generations, we have experienced those changes ourselves.

Somewhere along the way, we began making a list. The textures we wanted. The results we expected. The products we believed deserved a permanent place in the routine. Not skincare designed to create more steps, but considered essentials designed around the habits that make the greatest difference.

That list became the beginning of GEE SKIN.

We did not create it because the world was short on skincare. We created it because, after two decades of working with women and their skin, we knew exactly what we wanted to add: intelligent, hardworking formulas that balance performance with pleasure; products that feel luxurious but never complicated; a concise wardrobe made to evolve with you through different ages and stages.

GEE SKIN is a new chapter, but it is rooted in everything we have always believed: knowledge is power, simplicity is luxurious and confidence is the point. It brings together what our clients have told us, what our skin therapists have taught us and what our own skin has shown us.

We cannot wait to share it with you. More very soon.

Until then: wash your face. Use the good serum. Book the facial. Drink the water. Wear the SPF.

The habits are small. The difference is not.
