For a special Father's Day edition of the #GeeEdit, we get to hear from Mr. Gee himself!
AS A MASTER MARKETER, ENTREPRENEUR AND CREATIVE MIND, ALAN GEE IS SHARING SOME OF THE LESSONS HE'S LEARNED AS WELL AS SOME KEY INSIGHTS INTO WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE TO HIM.
How do you embody the Gee Beauty ethos into your daily life?
I must say that all the Gee women are incredible role models in my own life! Anyone that puts the time (as they do) into themselves preventively, the better they will become as they go through life. That holds true in every aspect; food, fitness, skincare, health - including mental health.
What's your favourite piece of business advice to give?
"I used to say; Follow your Passion. And while that's a universal truth that everyone should follow (but few really do), you should also be aware of your skills. Because it's your innate skills that will turn your passion into tangible results."
In your opinion, what's the key to success?
First you must define the meaning of success.
There isn't a universal meaning of success. It is measured by your own idea of what that is and what that looks like. So don't ever follow blindly on what someone else's idea of success is, define it for yourself, and then strive for it.
There is no age limit. People are too conditioned to believe that the best years are the classic 30 to 50 years of high performance in one's career. But I've learned that brilliance comes at any age from wonderkids in their teens to geniuses at 80.” - Alan Gee
Who are your greatest inspirations?
You mean other than the incredible Gee women?
Far too many to count, as my eclectic tastes are so far ranging that I draw inspiration from so many sources. But as an example I've always been inspired by art and architecture, so the greats like Hogarth to Hockney, from architects like Hurzog de Meuron, to Mies van der Rohe, designers like Marc Newson, and Dieter Rams and in business, Steve Jobs and Bernard Arnault.
Never stop trying, learning, and growing. There is no finishing line.” - Alan Gee
What's the favourite part about working with your family?
Where should I start?!
First, the respect we have for each other in business. Each one of us brings unique and different talents to the table, so the collaborations are wonderfully inspiring. Then, watching everyone grow and develop as they juggle busy careers and personal lives. And what I love the best, is how we're all there for each other in every way along the journey of life.
